Public Influence and the Law

Remember that West Virginia torture case? The Logan County prosecutor opted not to charge the six defendants with hate crime charges, arguing that the other charges (which include kidnapping and sexual assault, but not attempted murder) have harsher prison sentences. In response, hundreds of the victim's supporters marched through downtown Charleston to protest to the prosecutor's decision and raise money for her future medical and educational expenses.
