Is It About to Start Raining Frogs up in This Piece? 'Cause I'm Scared.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll revealed that 6 in 10 Republicans now think free trade is bad. What does this mean for the Republican presidential hopefuls in the 2008 election? Back-pedal furiously.

I doubt most Republicans or Democrats have ever believed in true free trade (not the NAFTA/CAFTA version of "free trade" or "government-managed trade" as I prefer to call it). True free trade would require the elimination of all tariffs, quotas, subsidies, as well as other government interventions and distortions that I probably don't even know about. In short, the politician who advocates true free trade would likely be committing political suicide.
