Will Gore Run For President?

It is widely speculated that Al Gore will win the Nobel Peace Prize (see here and here) on Friday for his skills in creating powerpoint presentations and organizing mediocre concerts around the globe concern for the environment.

Now some people are wondering if the momentum from this award will carry him into a run for president. From an article on Yahoo! News:

"[Following the award] there will be headlines, broadcast reports, interviews with Gore about his Global Marshall Plan to address climate change, and the inevitable flurry of speculation about whether it wouldn't make more sense for Democrats to nominate an internationally acclaimed thinker and activist than a cautious-and-calculating former First Lady or a cautious-but-somewhat-more-inspiring junior senator from Illinois."

I have to admit, I think Gore's work with global climate change has been a little misguided. However, I am somewhat intrigued by the idea of Gore getting into the race. At least he has a real platform and a groundswell of support following him wherever he goes. Would anybody out there support Gore if he ran? If so, why?

Truth is, I can't vote for an American president, but the way our PM is running things it doesn't matter - he's totally in Bush's pants. So as usual, Canada is sucking up (emphasis on the suck). Perfect example: Gore's recent visit to Vancouver was hailed as this all-important event that was somehow going to make our province see the light on a massive highway infrastructure program here. Activists practically kissed his feet as they rolled out the red carpet for Gore. Then, upon arrival, our provincial government announces an empty plan to go carbon neutral within a more or less unrealistic time frame in an effort to push through a major hydroelectric project in an environmentally sensitive area (as opposed to the coal project that they were planning simultaneously). Gore's response was to pose for photos and congratulate our provincial leader for his foresight and his efforts towards creating a sustainable government. He has missed the point entirely, that he is congratulating a man whose government has closed schools and hospitals to re-direct the funds into highway expansion, and who covers up the expansion of unclean or un-enviro-friendly electricity generation with a paper-thin, thrown-together, environmental "plan" conveniently revealed at the very time that Gore was bringing the camera flashes to Vancouver. The man is a fake like all of these other opportunists who jump at any chance to make a buck, who will start up companies to trade carbon credits to the government so that the government can meet its self-imposed green targets.

I would not vote for this man, even if I could. But then again, you guys "voted-in" Bush...or did you?

The first vote I ever made was for Bush in 2000, but in 2004 I went the more sensible route and voted for Michael Badnarik.

In 2008, I will vote for someone who can re-energize Americans and reverse this perpetual slide into mediocrity we have going on here.

I don't think Gore is the answer, but at least he would break this feeling of Hillary's inevitable victory that has taken hold.
